Purechimp Matcha Green Tea Ceremonial Matcha
PureChimp Matcha comes from high-quality Japanese green tea leaves [japanese Matcha] ground into powder form, making it easier to drink than traditional steeped tea leaves. What makes PureChimp matcha unique is the fact that they offer ceremonial grade matcha in several different flavor varieties such as; mint, cinnamon, lemon, and more.
This type of Matcha is offered in two forms: in a tea bag or loose leaf. With the tea bag, you can brew the Matcha in hot water just like regular tea. For the loose-leaf version, you'll need to use a chasen to make powdered Matcha that dissolves easily into hot water. Find out more about the pros and cons of PureChimp Matcha in this review!
Pros:
- Grown 100% pesticide free
- 5% of PureChimp profits go to charity
- Nice, vibrant green color
- Very good grind
- Lots of different flavor choices
Cons:
- Not a true ceremonial grade
- Don't love the taste of the flavors
- Not a lot of transparency about the growing process
Taste
PureChimp matcha has a lovely taste that is fresh with no bitterness. It has some nice notes of sweetness and went very well in a matcha latte. However, drinking PureChimp matcha powder in the ceremonial way, with water alone, I could tell that it isn't a true ceremonial grade matcha, like some of our favorites on our best matcha powder list. I wish there was more transparency in PureChimps growing process and information about their methods from farm to jar. If this matcha powder was marketed as culinary matcha I would be very impressed however, compared to the highest quality ceremonial powders, PureChimp just doesn't quite stack up.
Color and Grind
The color of PureChimp matcha green tea powder is a nice vibrant green that looked surprisingly premium when compared to other high-quality matcha powders. When it comes down to premium ceremonial grade matchas, color and grind matter and can be a good indicator of the overall quality. PureChimp's grind is very fine and mixes well in water using a matcha whisk.
I couldn't find any information about what grinding process the leaves undergo before becoming PureChimp matcha, nonetheless, I was very impressed by the color and grind of this matcha green tea powder
The Bottom Line
After our testing and in-depth review, it's easy to say that PureChimp makes a lovely matcha green tea powder, and that is very evident based on the fact that the product is an Amazon best seller with thousands of positive reviews. Our verdict is that PureChimp's matcha has a very pleasant flavor profile that is very well suited for lattes, smoothies, and culinary recipes, however, the overall flavor is not up to our standards for a true ceremonial grade matcha. If you prefer a more premium matcha in your matcha tea or matcha latte we recommend the below matcha powders.
